Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection- CSMA/CD
CSMA/CD is modification of
CSMA. It is a network Control protocol using carrier sensing
system. Ethernet is also CSMA/CD protocol. To improve CSMA
working we use "collision detection". When collision is
detected termination is done and transfer stops. CSMA/CD is
not used in full duplex ethernet networks .In full duplex
transmission ,transmission occurs from both ends at same
time.
Ethernet uses a refinement of
ALOHA, known as Carrier Sense Multiple Access (
CSMA)
The
CSMA/CD
protocol functions
somewhat like a dinner party in a dark room. Everyone around
the table must listen for a period of quiet before speaking
