Photoelectric Effect

photoelectriceffect

Photoelectric Effect takes place with energy of about some eV called Photon. The above figure shows incoming Photons to Outgoing Electrons. In this effect electrons are emitted from matter like we have metal plate above after absorption of energy from electromagnetic radiation like X rays or the visible light as shown in the above diagram. It is also called Photoconductivity effect or Photo resistivity or photo electrochemical effect or photo voltaic effect. When a light shines on metal plate it emits electrons. On decreasing the intensity we get fewer electrons. If the Light is faint we shouldn't get any electrons. This discovery gave rise to a new revolution, the quantum revolution in physics and earned Albert Einstein the Nobel Prize in 1921.Science of producing and transmitting light that is photons is Called Photonics
