Aryabhata
Aryabhata was a great mathematician
who worked on the approximation for Pi (π).Born
in 476 AD in Kerala, he studied in Nalanda University
near Kusumaputra, now Patna. He gave the
value of Pi -
3.141.He also formulated the tables of sines.He devised
the rules of operation for 'zero'. He also worked on
algebra.
Bhaskara
Bhaskara
introduced the world to the
concept of infinity
the concept that any term divided
by zero is infinity and the sum of any term and infinity
is infinity. He also founded Differential Calculus.
Bhramagupta
He had a good
knowledge of Number Systems.
"When
zero is added to a number or subtracted from a number,
the number remains unchanged; and a number multiplied by
zero becomes zero."
Srinivas Ramanujan
Contributions to mathematical
analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued
fractions.
Dr.Raja Ramanna
Dr. Raja Ramanna is well known all
over the world as a nuclear physicist. He was associated
with India's first nuclear blast at Pokhran on 18th
May, 1974
Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha
Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha born on October 30, 1909, in
Bombay and died on January 24, 1966, in an air crash was
an cosmic ray scientist. He did vital work in
identifying the particles called mesons. He was the
first Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India.
In his honour the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research
was renamed as the Bhabha Institute of Fundamental
Research. The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre has also
been named after him.
C.V. Raman
Great C.V. Raman was born on November 7, 1888, at
Trichanopoly and died on November 21, 1970, at Bangalore
is well known for his discovery known as the 'Raman
Effect'. He was awarded the Nobel prize for physics in
1930 for this outstanding discovery. He was also the
recipient of the Lenin Peace Prize of 1958. Besides the
Raman Effect, he gave the theory of the blue color of
ocean and theory of musical instruments. He was the
founder of the Raman Research Institute.
